Working Out!

Continuing my mission to get a bit fitter and healthier this year, I am trying eat a bit healthier (i.e. less chocolate!), and work out when I can.

I have been following the Body Coach for a while now and have his recipe books – and although I don’t follow the recipes religiously they do give me inspiration to create healthier versions of recipes I have made for years. I will start to share some of these over the next few weeks.

I also try to do his exercises – they are tough, and although I don’t do them very often it has prompted me to join a weekly HiiT class local to my home.  The sessions are energetic and the music is pumping, which I find more motivational than working out on my own at home.

HiiT is great for lazy people (just like me!), it stands for High Intensity Interval Training – the workouts are tough, consisting of short, high intensity bursts of exercise.  The principle is that by doing a HiiT session, you not only burn calories during the workout but you continue to burn calories afterwards, meaning it is a more efficient way to train.

I also go to my office gym a couple of times a week, during my lunch break – and I try to make this an intense workout too, as I only have 1 hour to fit it in. I have found a website called Darebee – they do printable A6 sized workouts that you can take to the gym with you as a prompt – they have different levels depending on your ability.  If you follow their facebook page they also do a daily workout post to recommend an exercise each day.

I love yoga, and will also try to fit in one fitness yoga workout – Jillian Michaels (well known for her 30 day shred programme) Yoga Meltdown is great and not a relaxing session! You can find her DVD on Amazon.

The great thing about any of the exercises I do is that you don’t need any equipment, so investment is minimal. I have a yoga mat, for comfort and that’s it!
